see ses it all really so many ballshit apprenticeships about , had a few and left because i could see this , my hygene is better than a lot of shops close to me , after all the legends started out from home , i do think get a apprenticeship tho as there is only so much u can teach ya self before you hit a brick wall

i agree with u yoursaint30.to a point anyway.like joe i followed the same art road.started at 8 painting landscapes.moved to wilder ideas in my teens when i got my first airbrush.for nearly 20 yrs people told me i should be tattoing.so three years ago i did.started on myself.moved to some trusting friends.and from there its blown up.everything ive learned has been from being tattoed by someone or just doing it.havent given a bad tat yet and intend on starting by learning someone elses way.

also the way I feel about apprenticeships, is if you know about tattooing until thats all that goes into your head, if youve tattooed so much that your lines are perfect and your shading is awesome and not to dark, than you realy dont need an apprenticeship however its good to get an apprenticeship becouse places want apprenticed tattoo artist, but everyone needs to relize that when you get an apprenticeship…

that you end up most of the time getting the feel of someone elses style, so people need to find there own style and learn other styles to get down every single style of tattooing, becouse tattooing is all art styles put into one pretty much

The apprenticeship is for the mind, to understand and respect the beginning of the art of tattooing. Without a apprenticeship there is only another painter making tattoos,

I know alot of people thats never had apprenticeships that.. Today own their own shops and can blow most “pros” out of the water. So Thanks Joe for the Absolute Truth!! Amen! Back in the day, Apprenticeships were Free, now it became a scheme on making money.

@ogSOLO818 It actually makes sense to educate the talented people for free and in return bind those guys to the store for a couple of years to make money with them. But it is not easy to find these talents i believe!

I completely agree that artists shouldn’t HAVE to apprentice, but I think anyone looking into becoming a tattoo artist should educate themselves on cross contamination and disease transmission

So, what would you recommend one should look for if they find an apprenticeship? How would you know what you’re getting yourself into?
