CONSIDERATIONS FOR MAORI TATTOOS

Maori tattoos have a history that dates back to many centuries ago, and because of this selecting a design of a Maori tattoo is a process that should entail finding deeper meaning rather than just settling for the visual appeal of the Maori tattoo design.  It is definitely advisable to go through thorough research when considering this type of ancient tattoo, so as to better understand the Maori culture and the in depth meanings their symbols may likely behold.

There are not too many Maori designs to choose from, and when there are, many of the Maori imagery is sacred in nature.  It is always better to play it safe by knowing the background and meaning behind the Maori tattoo design you wish to get, so as not to offend the Maori people or allow them to feel like you are using their symbols as mere senseless ornaments.

It might also be a great idea to actually contact the Maori tribes, whether via email or by making a trip to one of their areas of residence.  Learning about their culture will help us learn more also about the design we seek and enable us to uphold respect for the Maori culture.

Nowadays, more and more people are becoming fascinated with Maori tattoo designs, and as long as they get them with respect to the Maori culture, there is no problem here.

The Internet provides several galleries displaying Maori designs and their actual meanings.  However, should you decide to get a Maori tattoo design applied, you should be willing to undergo a greater deal of pain, as Maori designs are known to have very precise lines, and each symbol should be complex enough to depict its own meaningful story.

Maori tattoos are often seen in women nowadays also.  Some even wear them on places like their face and chins.  It is notable for us to bear in mind that once upon a time, Maori tattoos were not considered to be tasteful or attractive.  Nowadays, however, the demand for them has increased significantly and rapidly.
