Our New Tattoos – Paradise Tattoo Gathering

Rafe and I went to the Paradise Tattoo Gathering in Hancock, MA at the Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort. This was the second year for the gathering but the first year we went because we just found out about it. We’ll go next time in 2011. They decided to have it every other year because it is so much work to put it on every year. Over 60 of the very best tattoo artists in the world are invited to come to this show. Unlike other tattoo events this one is for the artists and the collectors of their work. Very few, if any, people that were “just looking”. Here are a couple links: www.tattoogathering.com www.jiminypeak.com/ Rafe got his first tattoo from Litos the owner of Forbidden Images Tattoo in New Port Richey, FL. he and his wife Julie were great people and he will finish Rafe’s tattoo sometime this spring when he has a guest spot at “Off the Map Tattoo” in Northampton, MA. The fine folks at Off the Map put on the Gathering (Thanks Gabe and Mary!) with a lot of help from volunteers. Just a fantastic group of people who are passionate about tattooing. www.forbiddenimages.com www.offthemaptattoo.com My first new tattoo was done by Stefano Alcantara of Lima, Peru who works out of Paul Booth’s Last Rite Tattoo Theatre in NYC. Stefano did the memorial portraits of my parents. He’s a phenomenal artist and a great guy. Mom and dad are 17 and 21 respectively in these photos. They eloped and never had a wedding portrait, but these are from the same time period. Check out more of

Judy, Judy, Judy! Good to see you still stay up late. ;-) We had so much fun at the Gathering and met the most wonderful people. It was like one big colorful family! I almost got “Tattoo of the Day” for each of mine. Perhaps I can post some footage of that later. The judges all told me I came in second, in one case by one point! But, alas, only one trophy for that category. I would have loved to hand over a trophy to one Stefano or Oleg, they deserved it! Good to see you too, Judy.

Yes, Stefano is amazing! With the caliber of tattoo artists at this gathering I don’t think anyone getting tattooed went home with anything less than awesome!

Thanks, Caylyn, yeah we were on serious “awesome artist overload”! I’ve admired Stefano for a while now, it was an honor to have him do the portrait of my parents.

Hi Jr! Glad you liked the tattoos, I sure do! :-) Somehow looking down at my arm and seeing my mom smiling up at me makes the loss of her easier. We did have great fun at the tattoo gathering and I’m sorry they aren’t having it every year, but I understand why, it must be a lot of work to put it on!

Hi Irene, I keep trying to leave a reply to your comment, but it never shows up! ….stupid YouTube! Glad you like the tattoos, I just love them. Can’t wait to see Rafe’s completely finished, it will be amazing! We had such a great time with all the tattoo artist I had only read about before. Everyone was unbelievably nice. Good to “see” you!

Great tats! Nice piece of art that you purchased also. I did not know of your artists, but they are really talented! I would have loved to have gone to this event, next year for sure!!
My artist was also there, Jeff Gogue. There were so many great artists there! Did you each have appointments?

Thank you! I love Jeff Gouge’s work. Je was there and taught some seminars for the artists. He was tattooing too, amazing work! Yes, we made our appts. in advance with the artists, but there were a lot of artists available for people who didn’t have them. The next gathering will be until 2011. They’re skipping a year because it takes so much work to put it on. I’m bummed! The oil painting I bought was sick! The gallery of paintings by the artists was wonderful, and all for sale! For a price ;-)

Wow Debbie those tattoos are so amazing, some of the best I have seen. 5*****
It’s great to see you and discover who you are. That’s the one good thing about YouTube that facebook does not have :)

Thanks Jeff! Stefano is one of the best tattoo artists I’ve ever met and he captured my parents photographs perfectly. I’m a lover of real tattoo art and as I always say, ink is addictive! I have to put them in places I can hide easily when I’m at work. The bank I work for would not be happy if one of their managers had tattoos all over their arms. But I’ll retire one day ;-) then look out! LOL
