should i remove my tattoo to get into the coast gaurd?
i recently went to meet a recruiter to join the coast guard.. every thing was fine until i told her i had a tottoo on the back of my neck, so if i wear a t-shirt it’s visiable and they can’t accept me for that reason. i don’t wnat to join the army, air force or any other armed services because i want to stay in the states- should i get the tattoo removed so i can persue my career in the coast guard or is this a sign to not join? please help.

Well, the coast guard has an important and honorable role.
I guess if the rule is it can’t show (didn’t know that), then you only have those two options.
I’d say it is worth it to have it removed (and get a replacement within regs).
tina if the tattoo not a bad you which you know what i mean they should have no problem with also ask to see where in the reg that you can not have a tatto i know alot of people in the coast guard that have tattos before there went in
None of the branches allow you to have visible tattoos on your neck. I haven’t looked at the coast guard regs lately, but I’m pretty sure that a neck tattoo isn’t waiverable. If you want to join, you’ll have to get it removed.
I’ve know for a fact that you’d be ok in the army, I’ve seen all kinds of knuckle heads with big ole tat’s on the side of their heads, lol. But anyways I defiantly ask the recruiter to see the reg. on tattoos before I got it removed, you may be able to get a waiver. If he is in fact correct, I’ve heard of a few guys getting the removal done for free since it was so they could join, this was back in the day when you couldn’t have visible tats. So if you do get the removal, shop around, tell the surgeon your predicament, you never know, you may get lucky and find a veteran that’ll do it for free, or cut you a good deal at least. Good luck.
If the recruiter is telling you that need to get it removed, then that is what you must do if you want join the Coast Guard. You can ask the recruiter to see the regs, but trust me, the Coast Guard are not hurting for personal, so there is no reason for him to lie about this. Besides, if you want to get the tat again you can always get it again in the future depending on what removal process you decide on.
I would not believe that this is a sign, merely something you need to do if this is an important path for you.
Being military can have so many advantages that would be well work getting a tat removed for.
One other thing, the Coast Guard is now patroling waters in the Middle East, so if you think you are joining the Coast Guard just to stay in the State, that may not be the case, do some more research.
