When can I shave where my tattoo is?

So, I got a tattoo below my waist line, basically where my pubic hair would be. And I hate body hair so I shave there…But when can I shave where the tattoo is?
Oh and I got the tattoo around 5 yesterday.
Whore tattoo? Yea, okay. You don’t even know what the tattoo is, and I had to get it low enough not to show because I’m a lifeguard during the summer, smartass.

you should have just waxed before you got the tattoo that way you wouldnt have to worry about hair for 4-6 weeks. oh well too late for that now anyways.

just be patient, you should have expected this or thought it through before you got the tattoo. now you’ll just have to wait for a few weeks.

yes, you hate hair but it’s not worth ruining your tattoo over.

When you get a tattoo, the area will be completely shaved before it’s applied, so at least you’re starting off with smooth skin. After a couple days of stubble and bristly skin, the urge to shave can be overwhelming. Unfortunately, at this point, shaving is about as brutal on your tattoo as a weedwacker. The wound is still fresh, and especially if you have any scabbing or raised areas, you run the risk of damaging your artwork by running a razor across it. Chemical hair removers are just as bad if not worse – you never want to put anything like that on a fresh tattoo.

Of course, you can shave the area around the tattoo. Be sure any and all creams, gels and/or hair follicles are cleaned away from the tattoo immediately afterward, and then apply your ointment or lotion as directed by your artist.

So, when is it safe to shave again? Your tattoo will go through several different stages, one of the last being the peeling stage. Once the peeling has finished, your skin will start to regenerate and produce a new protective layer over your tattoo. Once this new layer has appeared, it is usually safe to shave again. Depending on your tattoo and your own body’s ability to heal, this can take anywhere from 5-10 days in most cases. Do this simple little skin test to see if it would be safe for you to shave:

Close your eyes and run the tips of your fingers across and around your tattoo. Are there any bumps? Raised areas? Hard scabs? The tattoo should feel the same as the skin around it – if you can tell where the tattoo begins and ends or feel any skin irregularities, you might need to wait a little longer.

Sometimes a tattoo can remain raised slightly for as long as a couple months. This can be very frustrating and itchy to the wearer. In this case, if the tattoo is completely healed with no open sores or scabs, an electric razor is you best option. Even a chemical hair remover would be better than a blade, but be sure to leave it on for the minimum time required to remove the unwanted hair. If you must use a blade razor, exercise extreme caution. Your tattoo is so close to being successfully healed – the last thing you want to do now is open it up.

Once a tattoo is completely healed, you can shave just like normal without worry.

not yet, you need to wait for it to fully heal. about 1-2 weeks.

Wait until the scabs are gone and it’s completely healed up. It will be worth the wait to avoid ripping skin off or snagging on a scab.

depends how ‘clean’ the job was
id suggest leaving it for a week, however some people recommend that you wait for about a month, if you do catch it with a razor the last thing you want is a infection!

after it’s all healed, so 2 weeks. if you do it before, you scrape off small layers of skin while shaving, which could lead to a greater risk of infection.

3-4 weeks when your tattoo is fully healed and fully done scabbin over and peeling and fyi thats a terrible place to get a tattoo because its gonna fade because when you shave your also shaving off some dead skin cells =) good idea huh your gonna have to be gettin it touched up a lot if you shave a lot and NEVER wax or nair over it terrible outcomes

You can’t shave it for another three weeks, at the very least.

Wait until your tattoo heals entirely, the color is set, and THEN you can shave it.

Wait untill it is done peeling. Then you can lightly shave it. I wouldn’t worry about gettting a close shave though untill it is fully healed and the skin looks and feels like your regular skin. I have tattoos I shave over all the time and it won’t ruin them they are in your skin not on it
That’s a whore spot for a tattoo…. omg…. for real I really want to slap that person.

My rule of thumb is if I can close my eyes and run my hands over the area of the tattoo and no longer feel the tattoo, its safe enough to shave. Otherwise, you might mess up something that isn’t healed completely.
